Comic Review: Curse Words #1 The Devils Devil (Image)
WOW!!!… Where do I begin with Curse Words. Another new #1 from Image and once again I was sat feeling pretty damn happy and excited (One might think I only review the books I like). Right, think about JK Rowling sitting in a cafe absolutely off her face whilst writing Harry Potter and you are slightly close to Curse Words.
This book is Big, Bold and bloody beautiful. On paper Curse Words didn’t sound like my cup of tea, you know being Wizards and whatnot. However upon flicking through and seeing Ryan Browne’s (GOD HATES ASTRONAUTS) art and how vibrantly striking it was… I had to read this. Sprinkle in some very strong Charles Soule (Daredevil, Death of Wolverine, Star Wars) dialogue and a cracking story of Dark Magic and you get this writer sitting with Blue-Balls waiting till February 22nd when #2 hits the shelf’s.
A powerful Wizard has arrived smack dab in the middle of New York City and is casting wonderful magical spells with only slight side effects, grabbing the attention of not only the citizens but also all the News networks. Rapidly making him somewhat of a celebrity. However as with any great book worth reading our fair Wizard may not be as good as he lets on, infact you could say he is a bit of a baddie, but who cares when you have Hogtaurs on the scene. Yes it would seem that our main character is somewhat evil, but if you ask this fair writer through my years of reading comics and watching Sherlock on the BBC, I am left wondering ‘is he all bad or just half bad’.
Again as you can tell I am giving this book a huge recommend. Its big its badass and its epic as balls. Through the art they have really captured events in this book that could have looked silly and instead made them look great **Ahem Baseball Stadium**. I look forward to the rest of the run because you can see that Evil things are on the way in the battle between Dark and Light…
